Make your passwords secure people. Or stop downloading keyloggers.

This is probably a little late but Do not DL anything that is supposed to enhance GW. It's more than likely a trojan or a keylogger. Also I can't stress this enough. Make sure your password is secure. A combination of letters and numbers at least ten characters long with at least one capital and one lowercase letter is about as secure as you can get. Anything else is just asking to be brute forced. The more characters the better. I remember someone gave a formula once for how long it would take a computer working solely on cracking your password to break various password types. Names and words took about 12 hours at ten tries per second allowing for it to find the right word about halfway through it's routine. Random number strings take about a week at ten tries per second. A combination of numbers and letters with one caps and one lowercase could take as long as 100 years at ten tries per second. It's not difficult to figure out which is faster.

This is what happens when someone downloads a cheat and it turns out to be a keylogger.

Password must always be a set of random numbers and characters. Never use that very same password anywhere else (Not even in this forum, though vBulletin is very safe with passwords), and never let someone look over your shoulder while you type it, or even let them play on your computer account.
ONE MORE ITEM

SET UP A SPECIAL SEPARATE EMAIL ACCOUNT (AFTER CLEANING KEYLOGGERS,TROJANS,ETC) FOR YOUR GW ACCOUNT.

USE ALL 15-20 CHARACTERS THAT THEY GIVE YOU FOR THE EMAIL NAME AND FILL IT WITH RANDOM LETTERS/NUMBERS.

MAKE YOUR GW EMAIL A PASSWORD AS WELL.

GO THE WHOLE 16 CHARACTERS GW GIVES YOU FOR YOUR ACCOUNT PASSWORD.

PUT IT INTO THE SHORTCUT TARGET LINE SO YOU DONT HAVE TO TYPE IT EVERY TIME AND A KEYLOGGER CANT SEE WHAT YOU DONT TYPE

ok listen up..
u can know from which IP address the email was sent...
now if the guy is a bit of a not n00b hacker,he'll use a proxy or something, if hes like 99% ..wammo kind of hacker..then he hasnt done that, so the ip is in header...mail the ip to the anet guys...tell them to track the ip to accound and bla bla and all...see what happens.

The IP is in the email header...if you can tell me what mail service you are using i might be able to pinpoint you ..else you gotta figure urselv. I can help ifi ts gmail or hotmail.

Also, that guy wont proly give his/her acc, its the other hacked accounts. you should not have logged in with those imo.

ok and a general statement, is not for OP...if you ppl get hacked while trying to d/l cheats/bots etc for any games, then You deserve it :-) ...its like theif stealing from other thief...makes the goods guys happy =]

I'm not so sure if you'll get your account back. NCSoft support sucks. They arn't very helpful. Chances are you won't get your account back because it will get deleted. Therefore the hacker wont be able to play and you will be left witht he hacker's account. If the hacker is a true hacker he will be able to get HIS account back therefore you won't have an account and if you go back to NCSoft support telling them that the hacker took back his account, not like they're going to give you a free account.

Now If you do contact NCSoft support, they will most likely ask for proof of purchase. If you ordered online, you most likely printed a reciept and you can send that to them. If you got it from a store, and you actually have the box, you can read them your unique proof of purchase id number on your box in conjunction with your cd key. But again, like I said, chances are you wont be getting an account. I would also suggest that you roll back your computer about a week or so to be safe then run ad/spyware remover programs. Spydoctor is a good program . Hope that helped.

Agreed. Personally, I have a hard time believing that anyone could be hacked without doing something to induce it, be that carelessness with their e-mail/password, or trying to cheat.

Actually, I have a good laugh eveytime someone in-game threatens that they're going to hack me for whatever stupid reason. They always claim to know somebody, be it a hacker, a beta player, or a game developer from ANet. Probably gotten about two dozen "I will hack you" threats since beta. Still have all of my accounts.

There's 1 thing i don't get, he's using your account now right ?
And you got his account.
But if you hack an account its stays on the email of the guy which it belongs to, thus making him un-able to keep your account.
You can change the email once you are logged in, but still both have to accept it (you and the hacker) (through an auto-email)

... ^.^

this happend to me
my account is registerd with plaync.com not from ingame so they hacked my plaync account and changed my info
i submited a report to anet about it they asked me a few questions to verify the account was mine then they reset the password for me
they didnt delete my charactors but they salvaged all my armors and clear my invintorys

funniest part was they guy put his real adress and phone number in the new info i called him and he bragged about stealing my account so i reported his ip to his isp for hacking
im not sure how he got my info the only program i used was gwfreaks and its on this website so i thought it would be ok but after this im not sure
you see i updated gwfreaks then the next night my account was hacked

so yes submit a ticket to support jump through the hoops you may get lucky and the hacker is using your account still and not just clearing it out

Tell support to track the IP that logs into your acct. also send them the ip from the email. If they match he is probably a moron and just got caught.

I dont see why he can't get his acount back himself because you can just use forgot my password thing. It resets your password for you and sends it to your email. And for him to change the email on it you need to accept it on your old email account and the new one which he cant do unless he has acess to your email acount as well...
